The St. Paul’s Memorials Team is in charge of managing your special contributions either in memory or in honor of a loved one, or toward special wish list items. The following is our basic working policy.
Memorials are defined as money donated to the ministry of St. Paul’s over and above regular offerings and contributions. All memorials will be made public and credit will be given to donors in the Memorials Book, updated for All Saints Day each year, which is always available for congregational viewing in the narthex.
Labels will be considered for memorial items only, when brought before and approved by the Memorials Team. The Memorials Team will give discretion as to the size, placement and media of the label. The labels will be placed in a discreet area determined by the Memorials Team. As items given in memory or honor require retirement, those who gave the item will be contacted relative to the situation. The Memorial Team’s intent is to honor people’s request, but at the same time, change is inevitable. The appropriate communication and action will be decided on a case-by-case basis. Memorials may be donated in the following two ways:
UNDESIGNATED MEMORIALS
Most money donated to St. Paul’s memorials is undesignated, meaning money was not given to a specific item or fund, but to be spent where needed. These donations will be kept track of by the Memorials Team who will make recommendations for their expenditure to the Church Council. Church Council will make the final decision. Ideas for items to purchase with undesignated memorial money may come from anyone at St. Paul’s, who should first meet with the pastor and then communicate with the Memorials Team. A quote should accompany any request to purchase an item with undesignated Memorial funds.
DESIGNATED MEMORIALS
Some donors to St. Paul’s memorials give to specific items on our wish list or ministries of the church. Inquiries about designated memorials should begin with the pastor followed by communication with the Memorials Team. If the ministry is an approved expenditure for the memorials funds, the Memorial Team will recommend the expenditure to Church Council and they will have the final approval for designated memorial(s). All requests for specific designated items should be accompanied with a quote.
